I very much regret that exceptionally heavy
pressure of office work has prevented my sooner replying to
your letter of 14th. instant, directing my attention to the
fact that our return of bank notes dated 5th. inst. shews the
average for April to be $2,938,719, whereas the limit in this
Colony was laid down by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majes-
ty's Treasury at $2,750,000 and you call for our observations
in this matter for the information of Government.
In reply let me state that the Bank's fifth
supplemental Charter dated 29th. October 1897 willed and or-
dained
